You may not need to buy a sample pack.
Because samples are starting to change from pack-based to subscription-based.
A typical example of subscription type is Splice Sounds and this tool is also used by many professionals and is used in Diplo and Kendrick Lamar songs.
In my experience, it is well worth paying through monthly fee.
I actually started my registration and used up 100 sample credits.
In this article, I am going to explain the advantages and disadvantages of Splice Sounds, how to register free trial and how to use it. Please read the details below;
Contents
1. What is “Splice Sounds”?
Splice Sounds is a subscription service that allows you to use the royalty free samples you need from over 2 million samples for a monthly fee.
In addition to audio samples, there are also MIDI and synthesizer presets.
A 14-day free trial is also available, in which case you must cancel your subscription within 14 days.
If you want to register for a subscription, keep using it after 14 days.
Monthly and annual fees are as follows.
[Monthly]
- 100 samples for $ 7.99

[Annually]

Annual payments can be saved because you can use it for a year for 10 months.
2. Advantages
There are five advantages when using Splice Sounds.
- Cheap
- There is no need to download unnecessary samples
- Credits are stocked
- Convenient search function
- Download synthesizer presets and MIDI
(1)Cheap
Monthly or annual fees are incurred, but the cheapest plan will be easy on your wallet.
(2)There is no need to download unnecessary samples
Basically, it is possible to select one sample at a time, so there is no need for unnecessary samples like a sample pack.
Of course, you can get a sample pack if you want to put them together.
(3)Credits are stocked
The remaining credit will be stocked.
Therefore, you don’t have to worry even if you didn’t use it in a month.
(4)Convenient search function
You can narrow down not only keywords but also BPM, key, instrument, genre, loop or one-shot, etc. with the search function.
(5)Download synthesizer presets and MIDI
Splice Sounds also has many presets for four wavetable synthesizer plugin (SERUM, Massive, Sylenth, and Spire). This is useful if you don’t find a good default preset.
However, note that MIDI and presets may consume 3 credits.
3. Disadvantages that you should know before using
However, there are four disadvantages to know before using Splice Sounds.
- Note 1. Quality of the sound
- Note 2. It is sometimes difficult to choose
- Note 3. Using more samples are not necessary
- Note 4. Samples constantly will accumulate
Note 1. Quality of the sound
In terms of the sound quality, the sampling rate and the number of quantization bits are also different, so confirmation is required.
Note 2. It is sometimes difficult to choose
With so many samples, you may not be able to decide which one to choose.
For example, if you want a clap sound and search for “Clap”, many clap sounds will appear in the search engine and after you get lost, you will consume a lot of credit.
So, I recommend entering a lot of information to search. I also recommend that you play the sample while playing the song and check if it matches the song before consuming the credits.
Note 3. Using more samples are not necessary
It’s more convenient to use samples because this might be easy to find instrument without any hassle. But there are some cases that using too much samples is not necessary.
Note 4. Samples gradually accumulate
The sample accumulates, compressing the PC's capacity.
However, you can re-download the same sample even if you delete everything that has been saved.
You can see where the samples are stored by looking at the Splice Folder item from the settings of the Splice app.
It is recommended to set the folder to an external HDD, SSD, etc.
4. Is it okay to use sampling?
Composition methods using samples are becoming more and more popular.
Sampling not only easily improves quality, but also suggests new ideas.
Depending on the genre, you may not need to use samples, but everyone should try it.
Choose the way you think you can in making the best music.
