3. What Is Heavyocity?

Heavyocity is a virtual-instrument/plugin maker specializing in cinematic scoring for film, games and TV. It traces back to “Heavy Melody Music,” a creator team launched in New York in 2003 by Dave Fraser and Neil Goldberg, and was established as a company in 2006. Dave and Neil met at Berklee College of Music in 1989, later working respectively as a touring keyboardist for Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon) and as the guitarist for Epic Recording artist Annihilator. They reunited in 1995 at Sonalysts Studios / Power Station New England, worked on projects for AOL, ESPN and the U.S. military, and then founded Heavy Melody Music in NYC. They later brought in composer/sound designer Ari Winters (Carnegie Mellon master’s) and built a track record in game audio for major studios such as Electronic Arts, Activision and 2K Games.

Virtual-instrument development, starting with EVOLVE

Out of the experience of meeting tight production deadlines day after day, in 2006 the idea of “building our own modern virtual instruments that deliver world-class sound” became a new focus, and Heavyocity Media, Inc. was born. Their debut title EVOLVE earned high praise from critics, winning Electronic Musician Magazine’s Editor’s Choice and MusicTech Magazine’s Choice Award. They have since released a stream of award-winning titles that became standards in cinematic scoring, including DAMAGE, GRAVITY, NOVO and FORZO — the epic percussion that has become a signature of the Heavyocity sound among them.

DAMAGE 2 (Epic Percussion)

🥁 The sequel to the epic percussion that became a byword for modern scoring. Billed officially as “The apex of epic cinematic percussion. Accept no substitutes,” it is the true successor to Damage. With 40,000+ samples / 60GB+ of content recorded at Skywalker Sound’s scoring stage, plus a Kit Designer, Stage and 864 tempo-synced loops, you can freely build epic percussion. GRAVITY 2 (Cinematic Hybrid Scoring Tool)

GRAVITY is a hybrid instrument that brings together the “formless” elements modern scoring needs — complex pads, thrilling risers, otherworldly stings and earth-shaking hits. The sequel Gravity 2 evolves that legendary toolkit, letting you intuitively build tempo-synced swells, rhythmic pulses, complex stutters and even glitch effects.

About System Requirements

Heavyocity soft-instruments basically run in Native Instruments “Kontakt” or “Reaktor.” Because many products also work in the free “Kontakt Player” / “Reaktor Player,” you can bring in Heavyocity sounds even without a full Native Instruments license. Installation follows a unique procedure using both the official “Heavyocity Product Portal” and Native Instruments’ “Native Access.”

4. Installation / Activation

Authorizing and activating Heavyocity (Kontakt instruments) is a little involved and completes in the following 4 steps. After creating an account at Heavyocity and installing via the Portal, you need to register again in Native Instruments’ Native Access.
