Independent developer CRQL is offering its spectral phaser plugin UZU as a free download for a limited time. Unlike a traditional phaser that builds 12–24 notches by phase-shifting allpass stages, UZU works in the frequency domain via FFT and can carve up to 8,192 notches across the spectrum, producing extremely sharp, bubbly, and liquid-like movement.
About CRQL UZU
UZU is closer to a “spectral effect that behaves like a phaser” than a conventional one. The shape, spacing, and depth of its dense notch field can be modulated to give bass-design patches and pads a glassy, laser-like quality, and an automatic Speed control lets the offset sweep through the spectrum on its own. A 1X / 5X switch widens the modulation range, an HZ / OCT switch toggles between linear and logarithmic frequency scaling, and a low-end protect option keeps content below 250 Hz untouched. The plugin also exposes its FFT block size, so you can trade resolution for latency.

- Width – distance between spectral notches
- Offset – phase offset of the notch shape
- Depth – sharpness and intensity of each notch
- Speed – automatic offset modulation rate
- MIX / Blur – wet amount and frequency-bin smoothing
- HZ / OCT switch (linear vs logarithmic spacing)
- 1X / 5X range switch for Speed and Offset
- Below-250 Hz preservation switch
- User-adjustable spectral block size
