ManasWolrd has released SteepFlanger, a free open-source flanger plugin built around an unusually steep comb-filter notch shape. Where most flangers blur the comb peaks together to create a smooth swirl, SteepFlanger sharpens the notches so the resonant peaks stand out clearly, producing a more metallic and harmonically focused effect.
The most distinctive feature is the hand-drawn customization panel, which lets you sculpt the modulation curve directly with the mouse instead of relying on a fixed sine LFO. That makes it possible to draw evolving rhythmic patterns, abrupt jumps and irregular shapes that conventional flangers simply can’t produce, which suits sound design, glitchy textures and creative bus processing more than transparent doubling effects.
Key features
- Extremely steep comb-filter notches for a more metallic, focused flange tone
- Hand-drawn modulation curve editor for non-LFO motion
- Free and open-source — released through the developer’s GitHub
- Source code available for inspection and modification
- Plugin formats provided in the GitHub release notes
SteepFlanger is a small but distinctive addition to a free-plugin library — useful for anyone who wants a flanger with a sharper, more present character or who likes to draw their own modulation rather than tweak a sine LFO.
