What Is Relooper?
Relooper is a groove-generation plugin co-developed by United Plugins and JMG Sound. It buffers and slices incoming audio in real time, synchronized to your DAW’s tempo, and continuously transforms playback speed, direction, position, and length to generate two new groove layers from any source material. No samples need to be loaded — even a simple four-on-the-floor kick can become a complex multi-layered beat with stutter, reverse, and syncopated elements. The plugin supports stutter, reverse, remix, syncopation, and glitch processing, covering a wide palette from subtle groove enhancement to radical rhythmic deconstruction.
Key Features
Groove
The heart of Relooper. Eight groove types reshape incoming audio in distinct ways: Time (playback speed variation), Repeat (loop repetition), Reverse (reverse playback), Remix (slice reordering), Syncopate (off-beat shifting), Stutter (rapid repetition), Complex (combined processing), and Glitch (experimental mangling). Additional controls include buffer size switching, high-pass and low-pass filters, panning, noise, offset, and sidechain ducking.
Profile
64 profile types transform the timbral character of the input signal without using any samples. Profiles span drum-oriented options (kick, snare, cymbal, percussion), environmental sounds (foley), resynthesis (synth), complex resonant filtering (resonate), and three-dimensional spatial processing (space). This lets you fundamentally reshape the sound of your source rather than merely processing it.
Effects
One effect can be applied to each groove layer from a library of 64 types, including distortion, reverb, modulation, filter, compressor, gate, transient shaper, and EQ. A single Depth knob controls the intensity, keeping the creative workflow uninterrupted.
Motion
120 motion modes modulate groove layer levels over time. Modes include Fill (auto-fill generator), Steps (trance gate), LFO shapes (Sine, Triangle, Square, Saw), Pump (sidechain-style pumping), and Pulse (inverted-direction modulation), giving Relooper a built-in rhythmic animation system on top of its groove engines.
