1. What Is SSL “X-Phase”?
X-Phase is an all-pass filter plugin that offers manual control and a high-quality response. It allows you to apply a phase shift at a specified frequency within a signal. Unlike other filter types, where the gain of the selected frequency is changed, an all-pass filter does not change the gain of the overall signal. This makes it useful for fixing microphone phase issues when recording.
X-Phase can also be used to create comb filters by applying the filtered signal to an unfiltered version of the same signal. X-Phase’s controls are simple: the Frequency control selects the frequency where the phase offset is applied, the Q control sets the slope of the correction curve applied to the entire signal, and the Phase Invert button flips the filter’s phase by 180 degrees.
An independent Delay section is applied to the entire signal, enabling more extensive time alignment of the signal.
