2. What is UVI “Rumble”?
Rumble is UVI’s first multiband bass synthesizer, treating the low, mid and high bands as three independent synth engines. It is UVI’s first standalone software instrument since Falcon, and runs on its own without requiring Falcon or UVI Workstation.
💡 How it differs from a typical synth
A typical synthesizer builds a tone with a single engine, then shapes it afterward with EQ and effects. Rumble instead splits the sound into three bands and designs each one as an independent synth engine. You can separately control the weight of the lows, the presence of the mids and the air of the highs — an unprecedented architecture.
Three Synth Engines — Body / Character / Air
Rumble’s biggest feature is its unique architecture that splits the tone into low/mid/high bands, each handled as an independent synth engine. Each engine has its own oscillator, wave shaper and effects, and they are unified into a single sound through a shared filter, multiband compressor and master EQ.
- BODY / Low band: Handles the sub and low frequencies. Forms the foundation for sub-bass and 808 bass, building the weight, punch and low-end that support the entire track.
- CHARACTER / Mid band: Handles the low-mid to high-mid range. Creates the tone’s personality, presence and rich harmonics, defining the sound’s identity.
- AIR / High band: Handles the high-mid to high range. Adds clarity of contour, air, shimmer and motion, giving the sound edge and detail.
In addition, the AM Injector feature applies amplitude modulation between the bands — for example, the Body signal can drive the level of Character, and Character can drive Air — creating complex, organic interactions within a single tone.
Sound Design Features
While designed for bass, Rumble also works as a full-fledged sound design environment. By combining each engine’s oscillators, wave shapers and effects, it covers everything from 808s and modern bass music to drones, motion sounds, formants and cinematic textures.
Modulation
Rumble features 33 modulation sources and a flexible modulation matrix. Modulation can be assigned to nearly every parameter, covering everything from static bass to dynamic sound design.
- 16 Macros: Control multiple parameters at once. Supports DAW automation.
- MIDI control: Supports velocity, mod wheel, key tracking and pitch bend.
- 3 ADSR envelopes: Curve editing per stage and legato playing supported.
- 4 LFOs: Adjustable waveform, symmetry and pulse width. Includes an LFO Mix function that combines all four.
- 2 MSEGs: Up to 128 breakpoints for rhythmic patterns and long evolving changes.
- Random & Analog Drift: Random modulation using S&H and chaos theory (Lorenz / Rossler), plus a recreation of the subtle drift characteristic of analog circuitry.
Master Section
A powerful master section integrates the three independent engines. The sound built with Body / Character / Air is brought together into one polished tone.
Multiband Compressor
Optimized for the three-band Body / Character / Air structure. From transparent leveling to powerful EDM-style processing, it offers 8 character modes: Clean / FET / HiFi / Opto / OTT / Punch / Radio / Sub & Click.
Master EQ
A 4-band parametric EQ with a real-time spectrum analyzer. It supports low-pass / high-pass / notch / low-shelf / high-shelf / peak, letting you adjust the final tone while visually checking the frequency balance.
Preset Library
Includes a vast collection of factory presets created by leading sound designers and genre-specialist producers. Usable both as ready-to-go sounds and as starting points for new sound design.
Although designed for bass, Rumble’s sound library goes far beyond bass alone. It can be used across a wide range of production contexts including electronic music, film scoring, game music and sound design.
