2. About SSL “LMC+”
SSL LMC+ recreates the sound of the reverse talkback function — better known as the listen mic — from the SSL 4000E console. The listen mic featured a built-in compressor designed to prevent overload and make quiet speech intelligible. Combining the listen mic compressor with the noise gate built into the SSL 4000E gave birth to the gated reverb drum sound that defined the 1980s.
The LMC+ plugin goes beyond the original hardware, adding external sidechain capability, high-pass and low-pass filters, scoop and split functions and other advanced features that were not present on the original console.
