Pro-Q 4

FabFilter Pro-Q 4 is an equalizer plugin for mixing and mastering. It offers up to 24 EQ bands and adds features such as dynamic EQ, spectral dynamics and EQ Sketch, pursuing both sound quality and workflow speed.

There are three processing modes: Zero Latency, Linear Phase and Natural Phase. Each band can be processed in Mid/Side or L/R, and immersive formats up to Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 are supported. You can add and multi-select bands on the large interactive EQ display, grab peaks in the spectrum analyzer directly with Spectrum Grab, and use EQ Match to match the spectrum of another Pro-Q 4 instance or an external signal.

New in Pro-Q 4 is spectral dynamics. A regular dynamic EQ moves the gain of the whole band, but spectral dynamics reacts only to the frequencies within the band that exceed the threshold and leaves the others untouched, which suits problem frequencies that shift in position. With EQ Sketch you can draw the EQ curve you want in a single stroke to create a starting point, and the Gentle/Warm Character modes add analog-style warmth.

Saturn 2

FabFilter Saturn 2 is a multiband saturation/distortion plugin. It covers everything from clean, warm tube and tape saturation to wild multiband guitar-amp effects with 28 distortion styles.

The distortion models are inspired by the sound of vintage gear such as tubes, tape, transformers and guitar amps, and there are also five creative FX styles that change the sound in unexpected directions. With up to 6 bands, you can set drive, mix, feedback, dynamics, tone and level separately for each band. It also includes linear-phase processing for mastering and subtle saturation.

Modulation is another major feature. It offers a 16-step XLFO, envelope generator, envelope follower, XY controller/sliders and MIDI sources, which you simply drag and drop onto a 50-slot modulation matrix. Gentle modulation of crossover frequencies, band levels and tone adds warmth and depth, and the modulation movement is visualized in real time.

Pro-MB

FabFilter Pro-MB is a multiband compressor/expander. It is designed to make multiband dynamics processing, which is considered difficult to set up, intuitive and powerful.

Conventional multiband processors split the whole spectrum with crossovers, but in Pro-MB you create bands directly over the frequency range you want to process. The interactive multiband display makes it clear that the rest of the spectrum is left untouched. If needed, you can snap bands next to each other to recreate a traditional crossover system.

There are three processing modes. The unique Dynamic Phase mode has nearly the same frequency response as conventional multiband processing without introducing latency or pre-ringing, with only slight phase changes when the gain actually changes. There is also a Linear Phase mode, where crossover frequencies can be moved quickly without audible artifacts, and a traditional Minimum Phase mode. It handles everything from transparent compression, limiting and expansion to pumping upward compression and punchy gating.

Volcano 3

FabFilter Volcano 3 is a filter plugin for creative use. It features four analog-sounding filters with highly flexible routing, and a wide range of filter shapes including non-linear bell and shelf types.

Since the original release in 2005, FabFilter Volcano has been known as a vintage-style, gritty and creamy cutoff filter. Volcano 3 adds vintage-style EQ-type filter shapes (bell, low/high shelf, notch, all-pass) with internal drive and non-linear characteristics, and each filter now has a Drive setting to adjust internal saturation. Depending on the filter style, high peak settings cause saturation and self-oscillation just like classic vintage filters.

Modulation includes a 16-step XLFO, envelope generator, envelope follower, XY controller and MIDI sources, all connected by drag and drop. The interface has been completely redesigned, and the modulation source design and floating slot panels simplify the workflow.

Pro-DS

FabFilter Pro-DS is a de-esser plugin. Its intelligent “Single Vocal” detection algorithm accurately detects sibilance in vocal recordings and attenuates it transparently.

Even with the best microphones, preamps and converters, vocal sibilance is easily over-emphasized by post-processing such as compression and saturation. Pro-DS is the tool designed to deal with that. There are two detection modes: the Single Vocal mode specialized for vocals, and the classic Allround mode, which lets you use it as a high-frequency limiter for any material such as drums or a full mix.

Processing can be Wide Band or linear-phase Split Band, with up to 15 ms of lookahead, freely adjustable stereo link, Mid-only or Side-only processing, and up to 4x linear-phase oversampling. The real-time de-essing display shows where processing is taking place, and the sidechain input meter makes it easier to set the threshold. It also works from the Pro-Q 4 Instance List.

Pro-G

FabFilter Pro-G is a gate/expander plugin. With tuned algorithms, full control of sidechain and channel linking, and precise metering, it is a gate/expander you can use from mixing to live.

It has six expander/gate algorithms, including upward expansion and ducking, and attack and release work with program-dependent curves. Routing can be mono, stereo or Mid/Side, and Expert mode allows full customization of the external sidechain input and channel-link routing. MIDI triggering, which opens the gate from a MIDI keyboard, is also supported.

Metering combines input/output level meters, a real-time level display and a transfer curve, giving clear feedback on the current gate/expander settings and processing. You can also control it together with other instances from the Pro-Q 4 Instance List.

One

FabFilter One is a soft synth with a simple structure of one oscillator and one filter, built around the sound of its filter.

The filter developed for One is a thick, smooth, self-oscillating digital filter, carefully tuned for the character and warmth of classic analog synths. It stays organic even at full resonance and never sounds cheap or “digital”. The oscillator is a high-quality, alias-free design offering saw, triangle and square (with pulse width modulation) waves.

There are two modulation sources: an LFO and an EG. The LFO has triangle and square waves, lets you choose any waveform between saw and triangle by adjusting the wave balance, and can sync to the host tempo. The EG has a regular ADSR plus a Hold setting that extends the time a key is held. Portamento uses an algorithm that adds lively expression to your playing rather than simply sliding the pitch. Smart Parameter Interpolation also eliminates click and zipper noise when parameters change.

Simplon

FabFilter Simplon is a filter plugin that serves as a simplified version of Volcano 3. It has two independent multimode filters that can switch between low-pass, high-pass and band-pass with 12/24/48 dB/oct slopes. The two filters can be connected in series or in parallel.

The filters were originally developed for FabFilter One and are thick, smooth, self-oscillating digital filters. They stay organic even at full resonance and never sound cheap. Each filter has three filter characters that determine its tone and overdrive, from smooth with moderate overdrive to extreme, raw and self-oscillating. Combined with the response and slope settings, this gives up to 27 filter types.

The large interactive filter display shows both filter curves, which you can adjust by dragging. The filters can be controlled individually or at the same time. The large controls designed for live performance are another feature.

Micro

FabFilter Micro is the lightest filter plugin, featuring a single classic analog-sounding filter from FabFilter One.

Micro delivers the digital filter sound established by FabFilter One in 2004, narrowed down to a single filter. The filter is smooth and creamy, but when adjusted on the interactive filter display it easily turns into raw saturation or self-oscillation. The shapes are low-pass and high-pass, and it has an envelope follower that modulates the cutoff frequency.

Because input gain and output gain can be set separately, you can freely control the amount of saturation in the internal filter. Beyond basic filtering, it can also be used as a distortion or analog-saturation-style effect.

Twin 3

FabFilter Twin 3 is a virtual analog synth with four analog-modeled oscillators, award-winning filters and a rich effects section.

The oscillators and filters have an improved sound in Twin 3, with built-in analog-style drift. It has four vintage-sounding oscillators (ring modulation available for 1+2 and 3+4), four filters with selectable shapes and slopes (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, bell, shelf and notch; filter panning supported), and Filter Freq/Peak offset knobs that move all filters together. Pro-L 2

FabFilter Pro-L 2 is a true peak limiter plugin. It is a limiter for mixing and mastering that delivers loudness and transparency at the same time, with eight limiting algorithms and extensive loudness metering.

Each of the eight algorithms has its own character and use, and processing can run with up to 32x linear-phase oversampling. Metering includes a precise true peak meter plus loudness meters compliant with EBU R128, ITU-R BS.1770-4 and ATSC A/85. Combined with the unique real-time level display, including peak gain reduction labels, you can see all the information you need while you work.

Surround support covers immersive formats up to Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 with flexible channel linking. It also provides an external sidechain trigger for stem mastering, a Unity Gain option to compare the current limiting effect at unity gain, an Audition Limiting option to listen only to the difference between input and output, and dithering with three types of noise shaping.

Pro-C 3

FabFilter Pro-C 3 is a compressor plugin. Combining 14 compression styles with a Character mode that adds analog coloration, it covers everything from subtle mastering to upfront vocals, drum glue and EDM pumping.

There are 14 program-dependent compression styles, and in Character mode you can set analog saturation, coloration and drift together with the drive amount and pre/post-compression routing. Combining style and character gives a wide variety of compressor flavors.

The sidechain EQ offers up to 6 bands using all Pro-Q 4 shapes (including all-pass and brickwall), and each band can target Mid only or Side only. Triggering can be chosen from an external sidechain, MIDI, or a host-tempo-synced pulse. It also includes Auto Threshold for level-independent thresholds, intelligent Auto Gain, Auto Release, up to 20 ms lookahead and immersive support up to Dolby Atmos 9.1.6. The redesigned interface has a large animated level/knee display that shows when, why and how compression is happening, and a circular sidechain input meter makes setting the threshold easier. Pro-R 2

FabFilter Pro-R 2 is a reverb plugin. It can recreate everything from natural spaces to 80s-90s digital reverbs and plate reverbs, and offers intuitive operation through musical controls such as Brightness, Character and Distance.

Pro-R 2 aims to reach the reverb you want through musical controls rather than technical parameters. The Space control moves steplessly between more than a dozen room models, from small ambiences and rooms to concert halls and cathedrals, and automatically picks a fitting decay time. Decay Rate EQ lets you freely adjust the decay time for each frequency using parametric EQ bands, and combined with the 6-band Post EQ you can create any style of reverb.

Version 2 adds two new algorithms: Vintage, which recreates classic 80s-90s digital reverbs, and Plate, which recreates the metallic sound of plate reverbs. A new IR import feature analyzes a loaded IR (impulse response) file and converts it into similar reverb settings, decay rate and output EQ. Thickness (adds saturation and compression), Ducking (blends the reverb into the mix), Auto Gate and a Freeze button have also been added. Immersive layouts up to Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 are supported, and the Speakers setting lets you apply Decay Rate EQ / Post EQ bands to any combination of channels.

Timeless 3

FabFilter Timeless 3 is a vintage-sounding tape delay that handles everyday delay duties and also lets you boldly reshape sound with unique effects, filters, tap patterns and unlimited modulation.

The stereo delay signal passes through five effects (Drive, Lo-Fi, Diffuse, Dynamics and Pitch) and up to six analog-sounding filters, and is fed back to the input with adjustable feedback. Besides the original vintage-style LP/HP/BP, the filters can also use bell/shelving/notch EQ types. When you change the delay time, you can choose between an analog tape delay-style behavior and a smooth time-stretch-style behavior. With up to 16 delay taps you can create rhythmic patterns, and each tap can be controlled and modulated individually.
