Tuğrul Akyüz’s experimental synth “TugAutomat” is now available for free!
This article covers the download details and an overview of TugAutomat.
What Is Tuğrul Akyüz’s TugAutomat?
TugAutomat is a plugin in which a chain of sound sources and feedback effects runs on its own, continuously recording itself into a 20-second loop. You then play that recording back with MIDI notes at different speeds, pitches and positions. It is aimed at fans of glitch, IDM, experimental electronics and sound design, and its generative design means that even the same preset and the same notes never play out the same way twice. On Gumroad, you can get it on a pay-what-you-want basis, starting from $0.
Key Features
- Sound sources: noise, clicks, WAV files, FM pings, and mathematical figures (Harmonograph, Clifford map, Superformula, Spirograph, Moiré)
- Flow: 15 strange attractors including Lorenz, Rössler, Aizawa and Thomas, calculated at audio rate
- Five drag-to-reorder feedback blocks (frequency shifter / ring modulator, echo, 8-line reverb, band-pass, resonator)
- Up to 16 voices. Playing hard triggers a new recording, while playing softly reads back past recordings
- Four pitch modes: Free, Key, Lock and Play
- 17 scales and chords, custom scales, and per-note chord stacks
- Arpeggiator with ratchets, probability and polymetric lanes
- Tempo-synced stutter, bouncing-ball delay, and an ASR-10-style lo-fi stage
- Four macros (Chaos, Space, Grit, Body) and a Simple view
- A 7-page live diagram in the INFO window, 3 panel themes, and 22 factory presets
- Supported formats: macOS AU / VST3 (Universal, macOS 10.13 or later), Windows VST3 64-bit, Linux VST3 64-bit
