Morphoice has released “HexaDrum,” a brand-new free drum synth plugin that recreates the legendary 1981 Simmons SDSV electronic drum synthesizer at the circuit level.
This article walks through the giveaway terms and an overview of the plugin. The download is currently a free beta on macOS and Windows.
What Is Morphoice “HexaDrum”?
HexaDrum is a free drum synth plugin that delivers a circuit-level emulation of the iconic Simmons SDSV (1981). Morphoice modeled the SSM2044 resonant filter, OTA voltage-controlled amplifier, CD4528 timing circuit, and every other discrete component of the original hardware to reproduce its analog saturation, soft VCA compression character, and velocity dynamics. The plugin is currently distributed as a free beta and supports both macOS and Windows.
Main Features
- Eight drum modules — Kick, Snare, Hi-Tom, Mid-Tom, Lo-Tom, Floor Tom, Cymbal, and Hi-Hat — each with independent control over pitch, bend depth, decay, noise/tone balance, click intensity, filter cutoff, resonance, filter envelope, volume, and pan.
- Global Drive control applies analog saturation across all modules simultaneously.
- Full circuit-level modeling of the SSM2044 resonant filter, OTA voltage-controlled amplifier, and CD4528 monostable timing circuit, taken directly from the original Simmons SDSV schematic.
- Authentic analog saturation, soft VCA compression, hardware-style velocity dynamics, and circuit non-linearities — straight from the original hardware behavior.
