What is RiverFlux Audio “BITLAYER”?
BITLAYER is a multiband bit crusher plugin that splits the spectrum into eight layers, each of which can be bit-crushed independently. While a typical bit crusher reduces the resolution of the entire signal, BITLAYER lets you apply a different amount of degradation to each frequency band.
Each layer has its own bit-depth reduction, sample-rate reduction, and jitter control, and you can adjust gain, reorder the three degradation stages, and bypass, solo, or mute each layer directly from the main display. This makes it possible to crush only the high end of a drum loop while leaving the kick intact, add grit to the midrange of a bass, or apply a different amount of degradation to each band of a synth pad.
It also includes three processing modes: Normal, which processes the whole signal; Tonal, which targets sustained sound; and Transient, which targets the attack. This lets you dirty up only the attack of a drum hit, or conversely process the sustain while keeping the attack intact. The interface features pixel-art-style knobs and bold lettering.
