2. What Is IK Multimedia MODO BASS 2?
MODO BASS 2 is a bass instrument from IK Multimedia that uses no samples at all and generates its sound through real-time physical modeling. It models the interaction of the player, strings, fingerboard, body, pickups and electronic circuit with modal synthesis, so the same phrase sounds slightly different each time, and you can customize the bass in fine detail, right down to the strings. Because it uses no samples, it also takes up very little disk space.
The main changes from the original MODO BASS to version 2 are as follows.
- Eight new basses (6 electric and 2 upright, with 2 of the electric basses being fretless), bringing the total to 22
- A “Fingerboard Type” function that lets you make any of the included electric basses fretless
- A new PATTERNS section with more than 1,500 MIDI patterns played by professional bassists, filterable by genre, song section, length, time signature and more
- Revamped pick and slap playing algorithms in the PLAYSTYLE section
- A free version, “MODO BASS 2 CS”, and the ability to buy individual bass models separately
Included Basses (22 Models)
The lineup consists of 18 electric basses, 2 fretless basses and 2 upright (double) basses. The real instruments in parentheses are the ones IK officially cites as the basis for each model.

Signal Flow (6 Sections)
The MODO BASS 2 interface is divided into six sections that follow the process of actually playing and recording a bass.
PATTERNS: 1,500+ Pro-Played MIDI Patterns
The PATTERNS section, revamped in version 2, contains more than 1,500 MIDI patterns played by professional bassists. You can narrow them down by genre, song section, length, time signature and other filters and audition them on the spot, so you can quickly find anything from the basic bassline that anchors a song to a solo lick that leads into the next section.
