Piruz Labs has released “Thrilled Groove,” a synth plugin built for 1980s horror-funk, and it’s available for free!
In this article, we’ll introduce the distribution details and an overview of Thrilled Groove.
We hope you find it useful.
1. What Is Piruz Labs “Thrilled Groove”?
Thrilled Groove is a free 1980s horror-funk mini synth for macOS and Windows, themed around Carpenter-style chase scenes, neon fog, gated drums, and the sound of early-1980s horror and funk. Instead of a huge number of parameters, it features six one-knob “mood macros” that move the entire sound. Just by turning a knob, the tone travels between a chase scene and a 1983 dance floor.
Main Features
- GROOVE: Internal rhythmic gate plus arpeggiation. At 0 it becomes a sustained pad; at 100% it turns into a tight 16th-note pulse.
- FRIGHT: Detune plus pitch wobble. Used subtly it adds analog warmth; pushed harder it creates horror-movie unease.
- NEON: Adds width, chorus, and high-shelf shimmer to the sound.
- PUNCH: Transients plus soft saturation on the attack. It gives basses thickness and plucks snap.
- SPACE: Dark reverb plus dotted-eighth delay. Lower settings stay tight; higher settings sound like being inside fog.
- AGE: Creates a retro texture with tape saturation, wow & flutter, and vinyl crackle.
- Three preset banks (Carpenter / Neon / Horror) covering Bass / Stab / Lead / Pad / Bell / FX.
