1. What is Piruz Labs “Thrilled Groove”?
Thrilled Groove is a free 1980s horror-funk mini-synth for macOS and Windows, themed around Carpenter-style chase scenes, neon-soaked fog, gated drums, and the horror-and-funk sounds of the early 80s. Instead of a huge number of parameters, it features six one-knob “Mood Macros” that move the entire sound. Just turning a knob shifts the tone back and forth between a chase scene and a 1983 dance floor.
Main Features
- GROOVE: Internal rhythmic gate plus arpeggiation. At 0 it is a sustained pad; at 100% it becomes a tight 16th-note pulse.
- FRIGHT: Detune plus pitch wobble. Used subtly it adds analog warmth; pushed harder it creates horror-movie unease.
- NEON: Adds width, chorus, and high-shelf brilliance to the sound.
- PUNCH: Adds transients and soft saturation to the attack — thickness for bass, snap for plucks.
- SPACE: Dark reverb plus a dotted-8th delay. Tight at lower settings, misty and cavernous at higher settings.
- AGE: Tape saturation, wow & flutter, and vinyl crackle for a retro texture.
- Presets in three banks (Carpenter / Neon / Horror) covering Bass, Stab, Lead, Pad, Bell, and FX.
