FX-Mechanics’ range wavetable synthesizer Camshaft is now available as a free download.
This article covers the download details and an overview of Camshaft.
What Is FX-Mechanics Camshaft?
Camshaft is a range wavetable synthesizer. You load an audio file, set up to four ranges (called “cams”) on it, and each range is played back as a single-cycle waveform at the pitch of the note you play. Because the whole range becomes one cycle regardless of its length, you can use a voice, a drum loop or part of a field recording as an oscillator. The audio is stored inside the session and presets, so patches do not depend on where the file lives on your disk. If no file is loaded, built-in sources such as waveform morphs and bundled samples are played.
Key Features
- Load audio files (WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Ogg and more), set up to four ranges (“cams”), and play them as wavetables
- Each cam has its own unison (Cylinders), two filters, amp envelope, mix and effect send
- Filters include low-pass/high-pass (12 dB and 24 dB), band-pass, notch, peak, shelf, and a formant filter that morphs between vowels
- 16 modulators (LFOs, envelopes, drawn curves) plus MIDI sources can modulate any knob
- Connect cams with timing belts to set up FM, ring mod, AM, hard sync and opening modulation (moving the read position at audio rate)
- Two effect chains (Turbo 1 and Turbo 2) and a master chain (Exhaust), all using FxmeFX effects
- A car-instrument-panel style dashboard with output meters, spectrum, vectorscope and warning lamps
- Factory presets organized by category (Idle, Torque, Rev, Backfire), with per-section and global randomization
- MIDI learn on every knob, interpolation modes (linear, cubic, sinc), polyphony, glide and pitch-bend range settings
- Available in VST3, CLAP and AU formats for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon/Intel, macOS 10.13 or later) and Linux
